John John Florence wins the Billabong Pro Rio and Nixon's WTA title

Nixon’s John John Florence walked away the winner of his inaugural ASP tour event at the Billabong Pro and claimed victory of the Nixon WTA Rio as well. The Hawaiian rookie surfed in extraordinary form, delivering many huge airs and exceptional barrel rides, defeating Joel Parkinson and clinching the title of the 2012 Billabong Rio Pro in Brazil. John John took the final with a score of 16.37, while Parko brought in 11.44 points. John John now sits in sixth place overall on the ASP tour.

John John also nabbed a custom Nixon valued at over $10,000 USD for “Biggest Air” during the Rio contest. It was his backside 360 that earned him the title of Nixon’s WTA Rio winner.

Now in its sixth year, The Nixon WTA is a winner-takes-all event along three stops of the ASP World Tour and one ASP Men’s 6-Star event during the 2012 season.Challenges in The 2012 Nixon WTA will range from Biggest Air, Highest Heat Score, Heaviest Wave and the overall Triple Crown Winner. The Nixon WTA looks to celebrate outstanding moments along these ASP stops that often get overlooked and overshadowed by whoever won the heat or event.

John John’s new custom 51-30 features a sunray dial in yellow to represent the Brazilian flag, a high polish all black subdial/hands, the Brazilian flag at the 6 o’clock position and a diamond-encrusted bezel. Congrats on the two big wins John John!
