Christopher “Chippa” Wilson has made a name for himself in lineups around the world for his skate-influenced surfboard wizardry. He has been called one of the most “technical surfers in the world” by Nathan Fletcher — a statement you’ll no doubt agree with if you’ve ever seen Chippa surf. Chippa’s unique approach to surfing is echoed on land as well. He was a carpenter before becoming a pro surfer and he knows his way around a workbench and work site. When he’s not popping big spins and backside 540s in the water, Chippa can be found in his garage, tuning up a motorcycle, working on his vintage Ford van, or tinkering with his many cameras.
While quiet, calm, and soft spoken on land, Chippa’s surfing is the absolute opposite. He surfs lightning fast with an entertaining and unpredictable approach that blends skate-style lines with power hooks and a few tricks no one else in surfing can even step to. Not afraid to buck convention, Chippa has been experimenting with avant-garde shapes and construction for his latest boards, adding even more creativity to his already incredible aquatic abilities.
