WILLETT WINS NIXON WATCH AS BILLABONG AIR & STYLE CHAMPION
The 20th anniversary of the legendary Air & Style went down this past weekend in the Austrian Alps, and Eric Willett (USA) walked away from the Bergisel stadium in Innsbruck as the Billabong Air & Style Champion.
In addition to snagging his first maximum rated 6-Star World Snowboard Tour contest, Willett also bagged a unique, hand-crafted Nixon Magnacon SS timepiece for his troubles, which included a flawlessly stomped switch backside double cork 12 in the third and final round.
Fellow superfinalists including newly-crowned World Snowboard Tour Big Air Champion Sebastien Toutant, third-placed Aleksander Ostreng and Mark McMorris all came within touching distance of the Magnacon SS, but couldn't quite nail their tricks at the business end of what turned out to be a fittingly memorable night.
Worth a cool US$ 10,000, the 6-hand, Swiss Made chronograph features a unique design including a highly polished black casing and sapphire markers. And to mark the occasion even more, a laser-etched rear casing was on point when it came to commemorating this special Air & Style milestone.
Franck Corbery, Marketing Manager at Nixon Europe, said: "Once again, the Billabong Air & Style and the world's best riders stepped up to the plate and delivered another incredible event. Congratulations from everyone at Nixon to Eric - it was his time to rise above the competition, and he truly deserved to come away at the end of the night with the title and the Nixon Magnacon SS."
